SAMRO Music Bursaries

Since 1981, SAMRO has offered a number of bursaries for music students. These Bursaries constitute the most substantial awards in music study in South Africa and are open to citizens of all the countries within SAMRO’s territory of operation: South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. The bursaries are available to students registered for full-time study at a South African university and awarded in the following genres: Western Art music, Indigenous African music, and Jazz/Popular music. The SAMRO Music Bursaries have become a significant source for music education funding with more than R25m having gone into the programme over the past 12 years. These bursaries have helped kick-start the careers of artists such as Marcus Wyatt, Concord Nkabinde, Andile Yenana, Melanè Hofmeyr-Burger and Angela Gilbert.
