Welcome to the SAMRO Music Archive, one of the most extensive collections of South African music in the world!

The SAMRO Music Archive is home to a collection of over 100,000 music scores, recording tapes, compact discs of South African music and photographs of South African composers. We also house paintings and indigenous musical instruments. The aim of the archive is to protect and preserve South Africa’s musical heritage by updating records and storing entrusted material in an appropriate manner, adhering to international archival standards. Our made-for purpose archive space is continually updated with new music, and we welcome visitors and researchers to stop by and explore our materials.
